Abhijeet Sawant to host Indian Idol 5

Indian Idol season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant is back on the show but not as a judge but this singer cum actor will be anchoring Sony’s Indian Idol 5 with one of the finalist of the first season Pratajkta Shukre. We spoke to Abhijeet Sawant about his new innings.

What made you accept this offer?
“I am very familiar to this competition because from here I got fame and recognition and for me it’s like home-coming and now as a host I am enjoying my new role.”

What was your first reaction when you got an offer from Indian Idol 5?
“I was happy and felt satisfied that again I will be taking part on the same platform but this time as an anchor. Khusi hoti hain ki….phir se woh hi manch aur woh hi mahaul hoga…”

After attending the auditions, did you feel nostalgic about your days?“Oh yes, for us it was nostalgic because from here we started dreaming of becoming a singer and we had the same emotions like how all these contestants had during the auditions like some of contestants asked me..Aap Ko us waqt kya feeling thi, aapne judges ko kaise impress kiya….but I told them that stick to the basic and work hard…”

How was it meeting with one of the old judges of the show – Anu Malek?
“Oh, it was wonderful. He was happy to see me and felt proud of what I have achieved in my life…”

What kind of response you got from the auditions?
“At every city we got good and huge responses especially in Delhi where we had some 50,000 to 60,000 thousand contestants who came to the auditions and it was very hectic. Kolkatta got a good response, later it was Mumbai which had got some got decent crowd and so many of them had also participated in the Indian Idol season 1 and to see them again Prajakta and I felt a little emotional..”

How is working with Prajakta Shukre as a co-host?
“She is a wonderful human being and a good singer and I am happy that my old companion is back. We are hoping that with our comeback we will get good response from the TV viewers as well.”

So, now when are you shooting again for the show?
“After two months of tiring and hectic shooting schedules, we are on a 2 weeks break so now I am in Mauritius with my family.”

Any other projects?
“Apart from this, I really can’t give any confirmations of my projects as I am planning to turn into a regional film producer so let’s see…”
