Alok Nath Was To back

Alok Nath, who was playing the genial patriarch Baldev Kapoor in Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai was taken aback when his character was declared dead, all of a sudden. Naturally, the veteran actor was extremely upset with the channel for ‘killing’ his character with out prior notice.Alok was so furious with them that despite repeated requests from the production house, he did not turn up for the last two days of shoot. Finally, they were forced to shoot with a dummy for the final accident scene in which Baldev Kapoor dies.

Says a source, “Alok’s track was going fine and he was quite popular with the viewers, but the actor was shocked when he got to know that his character was being bumped off, all of a sudden. He spoke to the channel and the production house and told them that they should have consulted him before taking such a decision. Alok Nath did not report on the sets when his death scene was being shot, despite repeated requests from the production house. Eventually, they had to use a duplicate.”

When quizzed about his showdown with the channel, Alok Nath was evasive. He says, “Nothing of that kind has happened. I believe that the channel wanted some drama element in the show to lift up the TRPs.”

He adds, “My character was an amiable guy and quite loved by the audience. I cannot imagine why it had to be terminated abruptly. However, the channel heads are the bosses and they know what to do to grab the TRPs.”

Expressing helplessness, Misha Gautam, creative director of Har Ghar… says, “It was the creative team’s decision to kill the character of Alok Nath. His character was a pivotal one and quite popular as well. Any actor would be miffed if his character is killed in a short span of time. So, I don’t blame him for being upset. However, this is how a daily soap works.”

When contacted, Pearl Shahi, programming head of Zee TV, says, “The story demanded the termination of Alok Nath’s character. It was a part of the script. An actor can’t question the channel about the tracks in the show. Alok Nath should have taken it in a more professional manner.”

Justifying the creative team’s decision, Shahi adds, “This new development has helped the story to progress. The actor should have trusted his creative team and the production house with the decision. However, he insisted on reading the script first and then going ahead with the shoot. We couldn’t hold the shoot indefinitely as we had the next day’s episode to shoot.”
